Helen B. Kim concentrates her practice on securities and complex business-related litigation. She represents public and private companies, and their directors, officers and principal shareholders, in a wide range of matters, including the defense of class actions, derivative suits and regulatory investigations involving both securities and precious metals transactions. She has also been involved in breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, and other business disputes.
Ms. Kim serves as co-editor of the ABA Litigation Section's Securities Litigation Journal and has participated in numerous panel presentations sponsored by the American Bar Association, ALI-ABA and other organizations.
Ms. Kim currently serves as president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association; as vice president of Administration for the Korean American Coalition-Los Angeles, a not-for-profit community advocacy organization; and on the Board of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Before moving to Los Angeles in 1999, Ms. Kim served as president of the Korean American Lawyers' Association of Greater New York from 1997-1999.
In addition, Ms. Kim serves as second vice president of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, and is a member of the Board of Governors. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Kim clerked for the Honorable Roger J. Miner, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, in New York, New York.
Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Kim spent three years as a partner with Baker & Hostetler LLP, preceded by five years as a partner at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP. Ms. Kim received her A.B., cum laude, from Harvard-Radcliffe College in 1982; her M.M. from The Juilliard School in 1984; and her J.D. from Yale Law School in 1987, where she was a note editor of the Yale Law Journal. She is admitted to practice in California, New York and the District of Columbia.
